1994 Porsche 911 Speedster Clubsport
In 1989, Porsche revived the famous “Speedster” nomenclature in order to offer a purer drivers’ car and to revitalize public excitement for the brand. The 1989 Speedster was built on the 930 chassis and was an instant hit with collectors and wealthy enthusiasts alike. The 930 chassis, however iconic, was based on an aging design. With the introduction of the Porsche 964, massive improvements were introduced into nearly every aspect of the vehicle. From driving feel to interior luxury, the 964 was a vast improvement over the previous generations. The new chassis came another opportunity to introduce revived versions of classic Porsche names like the “Turbo” and, for the second time in less than a decade, the “Speedster.”
The 964 Speedster was designed to be the perfect mix of the luxurious Carrera 2 Cabriolet and the hardcore Carrera RS. While it had a softer suspension than the Carrera RS and RS America, it was mostly stripped of frivolous interior amenities found in the normal road-going 911s. The “double-bubble” rear cover housed a simple, lighter-weight convertible top and the front windshield was a specially designed piece with significantly more rake and a lower profile than the normal Carrera 2 Cabriolet.
This 1994 911 Speedster is one of only 936 built and 427 imported to the United States. Equipped with the optional stereo and air conditioning from the factory as well as the highly desirable lightweight “Clubsport” package, this car further bridges the gap between the RS America and a normal 964 Cabriolet. The optional Clubsport package included single piece racing-style Recaro bucket seats and significant weight loss throughout the car, making the 964 Speedster the true spiritual successor to the original 356 Speedster.
With only 11,871 miles from new, this Speedster has been extremely well cared for over the years and would make an excellent addition to any serious Porsche collection. Finished in Polar Silver over black leather interior, this vehicle is in beautiful condition and shows exceptionally well. This is a car that connects the driver to the road in the way a 911 should, and drives as perfectly as it did the day it left the factory.
