Additional Details

The Lotus 17 was designed by Len Terry under Chapman’s guidance and it incorporated a number of new features, although it was in fact was the last front-engine sports racing car Lotus made. Only 21 cars were actually produced. Of these, about a dozen exist today and it is only now, in modern historic racing where two cars race in Europe and two in the U.S., that their potential is being realized. This design incorporates the best racecraft of the day, built around a multi-tube space frame with independent suspension on all corners. Girling disc brakes were originally fitted, with the rear brakes mounted inboard on the rear axle. Steering is by rack and pinion. Most Lotus 17s were powered by the Coventry Climax FWA 1.2 litre, 4-cyl. dohc engine. The transmission is a four-speed gearbox utilizing the Austin A30 casing with Lotus close-ratio gears. Chassis 662 is well known in the vintage racing community and has competed at The Monterey Historics. This car also has VSCCA documental (ID # 231). Specifications: Chassis #: 662 Engine #: FWA 6971 – Coventry Climax, 1.2-litre Transmission: 4-speed manual Brakes: racing disc – inboard/rear Color: metallic burgundy w/ silver accents & black interior
