Alfa Romeo introduced its 2600 model range at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show. The 2600 range was offered in three models, one being the two door spider. These spiders were designed and built by Touring of Milan.
The 2600 utilized an all-new 2,584cc aluminum inline-six cylinder engine with cast iron liners, a cross-flow cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers. This engine featured twin overhead camshafts and was fitted with three Soloex carbs that put out 145 hp. The Spider featured a five-speed synchromesh transmission and four wheel Girling disc brakes on later models including this car. The top speed was rated at 124 mph.
This particular car is finished in White paint with a beautiful unmarked red leather interior. The high quality convertible top is black and is well sealed to ensure great protection from the elements during Winter driving and keeping outside road noise to a minimum. The interior shows a nice patina of light use, with a mere 43,400 miles on the odometer. Carpets are in excellent condition. The dashboard instruments are all original and fully functional. The complete tool kit, in its wooden box, still resides in the trunk. On the highway the car is a pleasure to drive with plenty of performance for highway cruising and powerful brakes thanks to the all wheel discs. The gearshift is light and positive and the fifth gear is appreciated for highway cruising and improved gas mileage.
This Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider represents an opportunity to own one of the finest classic Italian touring spiders that were built by this accomplished Italian manufacturer. This low mileage, unmolested, sports car would make a fine addition to any classic car collection, but better still, it begs to be be driven in a sporting manner on a regular basis by it's new owner.
