This 2001 Mazda Miata Special Edition is a two owner car showing just 15,927 miles, finished in British Racing Green over a tan leather interior and accompanied by its original window sticker. Sold new by Balise Mazda of West Springfield, Massachusetts, with an MSRP of $26,195, it remains a remarkably well preserved example of one of the most celebrated sports cars of its era.
The second generation Miata, known to enthusiasts as the NB, was built from 1999 to 2005. Mazda kept the light weight, perfect balance and rear wheel drive purity of the original car while adding fixed headlights, a stiffer body and a more refined cabin. The 2001 model year brought the most significant update of the NB run, with variable valve timing raising output of the 1.8 liter DOHC 16 valve four cylinder to 142 horsepower, along with a refreshed interior and gauges. Many enthusiasts consider the 2001 to 2005 cars the sweet spot of the generation.
The Special Edition sat at the top of the Miata lineup and combined the most desirable mechanical options with an exclusive color and trim package. This car pairs the six speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited slip differential, and rides on a double wishbone suspension with four wheel disc brakes, a front strut tower brace and 16 inch polished alloy wheels. British Racing Green, offered here with tan leather and a matching tan top and boot, gives it a classic roadster look that suits the car perfectly. Special Edition touches include a Nardi wood steering wheel, wood shift knob, wood parking brake handle and center panel, stainless scuff plates, a chrome plated aluminum fuel door, a windblocker panel, Special Edition floor mats and a Special Edition gift set.
Comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, a Bose audio system, cruise control, power windows, mirrors and locks, keyless entry and a glass rear window with defroster. With low miles, a short ownership history and the most sought after drivetrain of the NB generation, this is a rare opportunity to own a top of the line Miata in one of its most attractive color combinations.
